Urgent Action needed in Sudan !

 

We had a good meeting with Congressman Jim McGovern
Our Amnesty leadership team of Group-128 met on Fri  10/24 with our Congressional Rep Jim McGovern to discuss few Urgent Action items.

1) Mr. Abubakr Mansour Abdela is a Sudanese lawyer and human rights defender who provides legal assistance and support to his community. After the eruption of war in Sudan in 2023, he stayed in his home town and provided humanitarian support by distributing free medicine from his brother’s pharmaceutical company.

On 5 October 2025, the Singa Criminal Court sentenced Sudanese lawyer and human rights defender Abubakr Mansour Abdela to death by hanging, without providing any public explanation for the decision. The human rights defender was accused of collaborating with the paramilitary group, the Rapid 

 Support Forces (RSF).

 

2) Mr. Khalid Omer Elsadig, lawyer, was arrested from his house in Dec 2024 by the Rapid Support Forces (RSA), one of the 2 warring factions in in the ongoing war in Sudan. He continues to be incommunicado since then and his family and friends looked everywhere with no success.

His brother, Abdelmoniem, was arrested 3 month earlier of him in Sep 2024 and died in the torture chambers of RSF.

 

3) The situation in Gaza after the ceasefire: Hamas is committing gross human rights violations by summarily executing dozen of civilians who are opposing the terrorist actions of Hamas. It's the same scenario that is going on in Suda.

 

Mr. McGovern promised to work on the Sudanese detainees with the State Department.
In regard to the human rights violations of Hamas, he explained that the only solution is to have troops on the ground to keep peace and protect civilians.

 

We are meeting with the Amherst DEI committee and the Human Rights Commission to address the urgent cases in Sudan
