Scilingo's sentence breaks new ground in the fight against torture:

A Spanish Court convicted the Argentinean Ex-Naval Captain Adolfo Scilingo to serve 640 years of imprisonment for crimes against humanity and torture under the Argentine military government between 1976 and 1983. The sentence is of great relevance in the fight against impunity for torturers and other perpetrators of international crimes.
